Best Party Beach Town on the East Coast

Up for the beach party scene?

Try this classic Florida city

You on the east coast and looking for a quick jaunt to the beach with all the party feels of a much further trip to Las Vegas? Consider Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a couple days of exhausting fun!

Getting there:

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is an easy non-stop destination from most east coast airports. Only 3.5 hours from Boston, 3 Hours from New York, Philadelphia, Washington area. There are a ton of flights, so get away early and be on the beach by noon! While a car is not necessary, the area is vast and there are a lot of options away from the main strand of resorts, so I do recommend it. Resorts on the sand are 15 – 30 minutes from the airport but other options away from the sand can offer great accommodations at cheaper pricing and are easily accessible from the airport. PRO-TIP: If you rent a car, be sure to plan your gas refill on the way to the airport, the airport sits by itself and has no gas options as you enter the area.

Day Party:

The party is constant in Fort Lauderdale, whether it be on the beach in front of your hotel, or at one of the several day clubs dotting the sand. La Playa Dayclub or The Rockbar Dayclub are in spots right now for daytime fun. Even if you aren’t into the day party scene, the beaches here are wide and the sand is plentiful, so a quiet afternoon by the water is totally doable. The resorts can offer great pools often overlooking the beach and ocean and with the benefit of poolside drinks/food.

Night Party:

If a nighttime party is more your scene, then start the evening off on La Olas Boulevard.  The main street of Fort Lauderdale. Too many restaurants/bars to mention here – but a personal favorite of mine is Happy Hour at Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar.  (Rum is my party all night long friend).  Later in the evening there are several clubs for jazz or dance music nearby just off SW 2nd Street along Nugent and Moffat.

I’m not a real nightclubber – so my nighttime preferred destination is the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, about 8 miles away from Las Olas Boulevard.  It’s a true Vegas style casino with machines, table games, restaurants for all budgets, fun bars/lounges and a solid entertainment schedule!

Shopping Party:

If shopping is your thing, you won’t need to go far. There are several malls in the immediate area giving you traditional mall shopping or outlet shopping. However, for the most fun, I gravitate back to Las Olas Boulevard.  Besides an active night life, this street has so many shopping options mixed in with the restaurants and bars you can make a party of shopping.  Try a shop/pub crawl one afternoon. Stop at a store, then stop at the bar next door, then repeat!

Long known as the east coast spring break destination, Fort Lauderdale is so much more than just a college party spot. Not saying it isn’t a spring breaker’s dream, but you can enjoy all the fun without being overrun if you avoid going there during that 6 week stretch of spring break around Easter. Off you go!
