Affordable Weekend Getaways in the US

Free Weekend coming up?

Try one of these inexpensive options

We all clamor for a little getaway without having to break the bank either in cash or vacation days. Here are some affordable weekend getaways across the US that are quick and easy! Depending on where you live, try to keep your getaway to a 2.5 hour or less flight. The more time you are in the air the less time you are enjoying your trip!

West Coast – Las Vegas

You don’t have to gamble to have a great time in Las Vegas!  Resorts and food choices can fit any budget and are almost unlimited. There is a ton of entertainment from free lounge acts to spendy shows. Best part is the number of flights going into Las Vegas make it one of the least expensive air tickets around! Rental Car not necessary.

Northwest – Portland

Fly in and hop a train from the airport to downtown. You can be in your hotel room in less than an hour from deplaning and it only costs $2.50! Downtown Portland is very compact, so walking is easy to just about any place. Portland prides itself in local fare so you won’t find much in the way of national chain eateries. Food truck pods are popular here with many flavors from around the world on the cheap.  Rental Car not necessary.

Midwest – St Louis

The history here is amazing. Hotels and food are surprisingly inexpensive for being a major US city. The Gateway Arch is the city’s most recognizable landmark, but others exist like St Louis Union Station, Forest Park, and The Fabulous Fox Theatre. Plan to have at least 1 Italian meal up on the Hill and leave room for a stop at Ted Drewes Frozen Custard for dessert! Rental Car recommended.

South – New Orleans

Go for the fun, discover the food, and never want to leave. If you are interested in history, shopping, dining, museums, partying or any combination of the those, New Orleans is the city for your weekend jaunt. A walkable city, there are plenty of activities to keep you engaged during the daylight hours and plenty of spaces run the clock on the night hours. Rental Car not necessary.

Southeast – Asheville

This city is the eastern gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and home to the glorious Biltmore Estate. The arts and music scene showcase an amazing array of styles and moods. There is something happening nearly every weekend of the year.  A drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a great way to soak in the feel of the area.  And, Dollywood is only 2 hours away. Rental Car recommended.

Northeast – The Jersey Shore

Access the Jersey shore easily via Philadelphia (for central to southern shore communities) or from Newark Airport (for northern shore communities). Surprise yourself on the Jersey shore whether you want an artsy trip to Asbury Park, a gambling trip to Atlantic City, or a more sedate beachside experience in Ocean City – every personality can find a place along the shore! Rental car recommended.

Off you go – get outta town this weekend and explore one of these great cities near you!
